A fundraiser for the 19th Annual Subtle Technologies Festival: SEAMLESS VISIONS, this first instalment of The Feed places Filiz Klassen (Ryerson University) and Christos Marcopoulos (RAD Lab, University of Toronto) in conversation about the future of responsive architecture and intelligent environments.

All revenues from this event will go directly towards artist fees and other expenses for our upcoming festival (May 12-15, 2016).

ABOUT THE PRESENTERS

Christos MarcopoulosChristos Marcopoulos is Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto’s Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design. He is also co-founder and partner in the architecture practice Studio NMinusOne (n-1). His work on the domestic environment has been acquired by the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. He is the co-editor of Wild Wild Urbanism, Redesigning California [CCA 2006], and co-author of The Living, Breathing, Thinking Responsive Buildings of the Future [Thames & Hudson]. His built work has been published widely in academic and mainstream media including Praxis Journal of Architecture, Domus, The New York Times Magazine, and the Wall Street Journal.

Filiz KlassenFiliz Klassen is an artist/researcher, with an extensive background in architecture. She is a Professor at Ryerson University in the Faculty of Communication and Design and Co-Director of the Design Fabrication Zone. Her focus for several years has been her project Malleable Matter: Material Innovations in Architecture, developing building skins that respond to weather elements. Aspects of this work have been presented abroad in Singapore, London, New York and Istanbul as well as nationally in Banff and Toronto. Her writing on material innovation and responsive environments appears in the book Mobile Nation (Riverside Press, 2008), as well as in academic and professional journals.

Bringing fresh ideas together with local, unconventional cuisine, The Feed  is a seasonal speaker series that seeks to build bridges across creative communities through a shared love of food. Each version investigates a different topic spanning contemporary art, science and technology, and places leading makers and thinkers in dialogue about the future of their practice.
